The Detroit-born author was educated at North Carolina's Black Mountain College. This is his first, and surprisingly, most immediately successful novel (*Midnight Cowboy* received good reviews, but sold poorly until the success of the film). *All Fall Down* was made into a John Frankenheimer-directed film starring Warren Beatty and Eva Marie Saint. A very scarce issue.
