[Salem, MA ?], ca1820. Period gilt frame.. Very good; some spotting; thin margin of old glassine tape along one edge (verso).. Handbill, printed (recto only) on laid paper (no watermark) and meas. appx. 160 x 195 mm.

Chapman advertising his trade. He would provide colored specimens that were made by, " ... use of a machine universally allowed by the best judges to be more correct than any ever before invented." The machine referred to is a camera lucida, a common device for the rendering of likenesses.
