Philadelphia: F A Davis, Att'y., 1883. First Edition. Original publisher's cloth.. Good; front hinge cracked; somewhat shaken.. 12mo, [6], [7] - 68 pp.
The author originally trained as a botanist and was largely self taught. He did graduate from the Univ. of Penn. medical school. He was well known in Philadelphia and the surrounding countryside as an "accoucheur" and had a long career. The book offered here was published three years before his death with the specific intention of providing practical information for inexperienced physicians by assembling case studies that could be instructive to the attending doctor. The unusual feature of the book is that all the cases presented in the text took place in or around AvondaleTownship (suburb of Philadelphia). This also happens to be one of the earliest F A Davis publications, issued when Davis introduced himself as a lawyer in the imprint. Kelly & Burrage, p. 541. (Inventory #: 21081)
