This is an original story by Waley, one of the great translator's very few original works. Waley's friend Georgette Boner, a Swiss dramatist, painter, and illustrator also illustrated Alison Waley's 1973 abridgment of "Monkey" . "In the Gallery" was reproduced from her calligraphic manuscript.
