This version of Bannerman's tale features a Southern black family- not portrayed with the usual racist dialect. Helen Bannerman's actual story is about an Indian family who where one would actually deal with tigers.
Fern Bisel Peat depicts her characters as colorful rag dolls. The calico series was published right after the first edition. It is a thin, 8vo with colorful eps & illustrations. Patterned in calico-style paper over boards. This copy has very slight rub to 2 edge spots.

VG condition of an uncommon title.
