1940s Photo Album Kept By Three Women

Various [Boston, Nantucket, et al]: n.p., 1945. Very good +.. Photo album devoted to three young women and their friends, from rural springtime scenes of 1942 to vacationing on the beaches of Nantucket in '44, to playing in the snowy Boston Public Gardens and riding bicycles through Franklin Park of 1945. The album also records a wedding, a young child, and some scenes of a larger, tight-knit group of four or five college-aged women, but the overwhelming focus is on intensely affectionate core group of three. A few years apart in age and frequently pictured at a family home, the three are likely sisters: several leaves show three photos taken in quick succession, with each woman in the same pose: balanced atop a fence, at the seashore, playing croquet. Subjects are identified by the album's anonymous compiler, but generally by first name alone: Margie, Peggy, Louise, Pat, Mary, Blaise, Ann, "Me." An exuberant group portrait of women entering adulthood as a team, with their palpable love for one another captured in black and white. Oblong 4to. Decorative hinged wooden boards with leather tie. Photos mounted rectos only, frequently in tiers of 2-3 photos each. Album leaves lightly chipped at edges; some yellowing to upper edges of photos from tape mounting. Otherwise very good plus.
