A SCARCE LITTLE BLACK SAMBO AN OPERETTA FOR "JUVENILE VOICES" PUBLISHED BY J. FISCHER & BRO. FOR SCHOOL ENTERTAINMENTS.

Music arranged and libretto written by Henry P. Cross. INSCRIBED BY CROSS dated 1937. Inscription is personal and a bit wacky. Written in 1936 - the 3 characters speak in stereotypical black dialect. Book's owner F.E. Cross wrote his name in pencil at top edge of cover. He was probably related to the author. There are 2 pages of advertising at the back of the book - for children's musical school plays. The back cover has illustrated advertising for "Peter Rabbit" and "Goldilocks and the Bears" Operettas - both by Henry P. Cross. The front cover is black over orange title & illustration of " Little Black Sambo". There are 2 small chips at the bottom edge and a crease. Front cover spine has 2 spots where the paper pulled away from the 2 staples - but it is still tight & attached. Small corner crease at bottom right side.
At the end of song No. 4 - a cast of characters are listed - and the M in Mumbo is made larger by pen by a child. The book's condition otherwise is tight and complete.
