First Edition. Cabot, Professor of Surgery at the Mayo Clinic, was a strong advocate of group medical practice and of establishing a partnership between the federal government, medical schools and hospitals to combat the problem of providing health care to low-income and poor Americans. In the present work Cabot discusses some of the socio-economic issues affecting medical care, such as the impact of scientific discoveries (which often drive up the price of care), the need for medical security, the advantages of organized or group medical practice as opposed to individual practice, and the role of government and voluntary agencies in shaping medical care.
