ANDREW H. FOOTE (1806-1863). Foote was an Union Navy Admiral. He died during the Civil War, though not in battle.LS. 1pg. May 12, 1863. Bu. Equip & Recruiting. A letter signed A H Foote. Foote instructed the commanding officer of the USS Bermuda to deliver blank muster rolls to ships on his way to New Orleans. The Bermuda was just being commissioned into the Navy at this time and was still in the Philadelphia Navy Yard: Sir, You will open the packages of blank muster rolls directed to the Comm.dg officer, West Gulf squadron, and deliver them as directed, to the vessels, you may communicate with, on your passage to New Orleans. Inform the senior officer present at N. Orleans what vessels you have supplied. Respectfully, Yr Obdt Servt A H Foote Chf of Bu. Foote died slightly over a month after writing this letter. It is in very good condition.
