Cornelia, Georgia: November, 1957 3pp on Ty Cobb's Royston, Georgia letterhead to Roberta Brown, wife of Stewart Brown, Jr. Written by Cobb in green ink, with original envelope addressed in Cobb's hand: "Mrs. Stewart Brown Jr./ Royston, / Ga." Roberta Brown's husband, Dr. Stewart Brown Jr., was Cobb's childhood friend and well respected physician and surgeon from their hometown of Royston, Georgia. Stewart led the Ty Cobb Memorial Hospital as the hospital's first superintendent, which was founded from a $100,000 donation from Cobb. The donation was made available from Cobb's baseball earnings that were previously invested in Coca-Cola stock. Stewart also led the founding of the Ty Cobb Museum in Royston and led the drive to build the Cobb memorial and to have erected a 6-by-14-foot billboard with an image of Cobb rounding third base that once marked the entrances to Royston. The details of the picture and the message on the signs--"Welcome to Royston, Home of Baseball's Immortal Ty Cobb." . Signed.
