This was Gissing's first published book, issued by Remington in 1880, not published in the US until this edition by Doubleday Doran, which has Gissing's corrections to Vol I incorporated, obtained from a copy obtained the editor from one Mrs Capra, who had it in her possession [cf. Collie, pp. 27 - 28].
