A letter signed Asboth and J. J. Reynolds. From Pensacola, Asboth communicated Major H. M. Porter in New Orleans concerning a Mrs. Tilton, who wished for permission to cross through military lines in order to conduct business in Pensacola. On the verso, a brief message from Reynolds recommended granting Tilton the permission she sought. Major Your favor of 11th inst introducing Mrs Tilton is received but I do not consider it advisable at present to allow her to go through the lines, without orders from New Orleans, and I would therefore acquest you to see General Banks or General Reynolds and obtain their decision in the matter. The Navy Dispatch boat Glasgow can bring on her return the Orders. Meanwhile I, as well as Colonel Halbrook will consider it our pleasant duty to make Mrs Tilton as comfortable as possible. Very Respectfully Your Obdt Sir Asboth Bri gel This ladys loyalty is satisfactorily vouched for, and I see no objection in letting her pass to Pensacola where she will transact her business. J. J. Reynolds Maj Genl. Only the signatures are actually by Asboth and Reynolds. The document is in fine condition with a tiny tear in the fold.
