The British author, Sir Arnold Talbot Wilson (1884 - 1940) was a colonial administrator, Conservative politician, writer and editor. During the first World War Wilson served under Percy Cox in Mesopotamia (Mandatory Iraq). He later became the acting civil commissioner for Mesopotamia, where he worked to improve the country's administration through reconstruction and stabilization of the region. At the 1919 Paris Peace Conference, Wilson was among a select few who successfully argued the case of adopting the name Iraq (rather than the Greek name Mesopotamia used by Westerners).

In this work, reprinted from the Central Asian Society's Journal, Wilson attempts to examine the history and culture of the Bakhtiaris people of western Iran.
