London: Henry Washbourne and Co, 1857. New Edition. Publisher's Cloth. Very Good. 8vo., xlix, 456pp. Sharp First Issue of this "New" Edition, with a new memoir of the author. Bound by Bone & Son London, (ticket affixed to rear paste-down), in brown cloth with blind-stamped borders and decorations on both boards. Titles and decorations in gilt on spine with blind-stamped borders. Illustrated with tissue-guarded portrait frontis of the author as well as of the subjects. Additional in-text illustrations. Square and clean throughout with little interior toning and some very light scattered foxing to prelims only. Mild wear to edges and tips. More so to the spine ends and hinges. Small abrasion on the front paste-down where a price sticker was removed. Small, neat ownership notation on front end-paper. Bookplate on front paste-down of Henry Alden Sherwin (1842-1916) on the front paste-down. Sherwin was one of the founders, in 1866, of the Sherwin-Williams Paint company. He was know to have and intense interest in fishing and books about fishing, and likely would have had at least one edition of Walton's classic, "The Compleat Angler". A very pretty collectable copy of an uncommon edition and at a great price.
