New York: Printed for the Subscribers [W. Van Norden, printer], 1846. First Editions. Octavo. Unopened. In two volumes; 574pp. and 555 pp with (1) pp errata. These sources came from the papers of Oliver Wolcott who had been Secretary of the Treasury. One of the most important studies of how Washington and John Adams' administrations functioned. His papers show much on the origins of the House Committee of Ways and Means (far more accurate than Henry Adams later work on The Life of Albert Gallatin). It is unusual to find this set in near fine condition. It is certainly one of the best of the works in the mid-19th Century on the early days of the Federalists. (truncated)
