signed first edition
1970 · New York
by Markson, David
New York: Holt, Rinehart & Winston, 1970. First edition. Very good plus in very good jacket.. Association first printing of this early Markson title, inscribed by the novelist to fellow writer Normal Mailer and Beverly [Bentley] Mailer. Markson's fifth novel overall, but only his second "literary" one (preceded by three noirish pulps - conspicuously not listed under the "Also by..." titles). Mailer and Markson ran in the same circles among the Lion's Den crowd, and even slept with some of the same people (Alice Denham). An unusual association. 8.25'' x 5.5''. Original black cloth. In original unclipped ($5.95) black typographic dust jacket. [10], 278 pages. Inscribed by Markson in the year of publication: "March 1970 / For Norman & Beverly Mailer / With all good wishes / David Markson." Jacket a scuff to rear panel, shallow chipping at spine head. Book with slight sunning to edges. Else clean and sound.
