[North Vietnamese Propaganda Poster] “Thi ?ua ?ánh M? – USAF” [Compete to fight the Americans!]
- 1968
1968. Fine. Color stencil poster (17” x 25 ¼”). A striking North Vietnamese wartime poster, hand painted with color stencils, with the artist’s name in the image. Captioned in English in light pencil on verso: “Compete to fight the Americans!” Slight toning at top and bottom edges, fine. The poster likely dates from just prior to the 1968 Tet Offensive, when North Vietnam launched a surprise offensive against a number of targets in South Vietnam. The poster’s caption likely was derived from a line of poetry broadcast in Hanoi to signal the beginning of its surprise offensive: “This Spring, more than any previous Spring, / Victory of war, good news spread everywhere. / South and North compete to fight the Americans, / Attack! Forward! Total Victory is but ours.” A scarce original poster in fine condition.
