Introduction to the new organization, led by John Collier, former Commissioner of the Bureau of Indian Affairs at the Department of the Interior, and his anthropologist wife Laura Thompson. The Institute's purpose was "to find and to achieve solutions to problems within and between white and colored races, cultural minority groups, and dependent peoples at home and abroad." Includes discussion of the need for training culturally sensitive workers to deal with the occupied regions of Asia in the postwar period.
