(Paris): (Editions au Bois Sacré), 1932. Limited edition. Disbound. Near fine. Portfolio of 10 bifolia. Nine of them are from Louys, 'Contes Antiques" and on is from 'Les Liaisons Dangereuses". All of them have a full page copperplate engraving in brilliant colors. Tere are also decorative initials, tailpieces and smaller illustrations. THe bifolium from 'Les Liaisons Dangereuses:" wraps the other bifolia and also contains the colophonL "exemplaire d'artiste. S. S." And on the front, an inscription from the artist: "Pour B. Mac-GUrrin En signe d'amitie. Sylvain Sauvage. 11 fev. 32" The recipient is likely Buckley Mac-Gurrin, muralist, whose papers are in the Smithsonian. One can speculate that Sauvage was presenting examples of his best work to the muralist.
The bifolia are in near fine condition with only a little toning from age, and are protected in a custom marbled paper portfolio.
