Radical prison reform newspaper Anvil. May-June 1973. San Francisco: United Prisoners Union. 8 pages. 15" x 11.5" inches. This issue of the Anvil focuses on the San Quentin Six - the six inmates at San Quentin State Prison in California accused of participating in an escape attempt that left six people dead, including George Jackson, the co-founder of the Black Guerrilla Family, two prisoners and three guards. The Anvil was a newspaper that was published by the United Prisoners Union, a prison reform group active in the 1970s until the 1975 assassination of its leader and editor of this newspaper, Popeye Jackson. Additionally, this issue has a story on a mass sit-in by Natives and their allies at the site of Wounded Knee in order to demand the recognition of treaty rights for the Sioux tribes. Overall, in very good condition.
