Folio (12 x 9.5 inches). 16 pages text. 51 plates (the last a portrait of the artist by Cole Weston). Cloth-backed, heavy beveled boards; printed dust jacket. First edition, one of 1,500 copies (this is number 253), initialed in ink on a separate small slip and mounted on the justification leaf (as issued). Beautifully designed by Merle Armitage and printed by Lynton R. Kistler. A fine association copy, with the bookplate of writer and photographer Carl Van Vechten (1880-1964).
