SVEN LUDVIG LOVEN (1809 - 1895) was a Swedish marine zoologist and malacologist. The Sven Loven Centre for Marine Sciences at both Kristineberg and Tjärnö are named in his honor. He was first Keeper then Director of the Swedish National Museum in Stockholm. He was also Professor of Natural History at Stockholm University. He was made an honorary Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh in 1881 and a Foreign Fellow of the Royal Society of London in 1885. The World Register of Marine Species (WoRMS) lists 174 marine species named by Lovén.

THE POURTALESIA is a genus of the family Pourtalesiidae which belongs to the irregular (bilaterally symmetrical) sea urchins. The animals measure 5–6 cm in length and live in the abyssal zone of the Atlantic, Pacific, Indopacific and Antarctic Oceans where they have been found in more than 3,000 m depth.
