By [Iturbide, Augstin de]
Mexico City: Jose Maria Betancourt, 1821. Very good.. 7pp. Small quarto. Removed from a sammelband. Minor wear at edges. Light tanning and dust soiling. Very scarce, early Mexican pseudo-periodical, which calls for national unity and the installation of Agustin de Iturbide as Emperor of Mexico in the wake of independence in 1821. The anonymous author, who signs this work "C.A.G.," exhorts his fellow countrymen to be united as the Romans were by love of country ("amor patriae") and honor the thousands of heroes of the decade-long struggle for independence by establishing a new Mexican Empire that will facilitate the happiness of the people and the common good ("la felicidad comun"). A second issue with similar themes was also produced, but this concluded the publication. We locate just three copies of the present, first issue, at Yale, the British Library, and the BNM.
