A KNIGHT TO REMEMBER

By Foreman, Michael
[London?]: n.p., 1970. Near fine.. First edition of this heretofore unrecorded work by award-winning artist Michael Foreman, a short and slightly surreal reflection on the battle against pollution, originally produced for PEGASUS, the in-house publication of Mobile Oil. THE GUARDIAN identifies Michael Foreman as "one of the best-known British writer-illustrators," in part thanks to his remarkable output: since he began his career in 1961, he has published over 300 books for children and adults. He has earned two Kate Greenaway Medals, and has twice been nominated for the Hans Christian Andersen Award.
This unusual title bears no publication information, aside from an author credit to Michael Foreman on the front wrapper; its ephemeral structure and brevity imply it was likely inserted in the an issue of PEGASUS, which contemporary accounts suggest is where this originally appeared. It bears stylistic and thematic similarities to Foreman's 1970 antinuclear picture book ADAM'S BALM, including the use of Peter Maxian figures and collage. A curious item. 10'' x 9.75''. Original color pictorial self-wrappers. [4] leaves. Wrappers with a bit of edgewear, a couple tiny spots of soil to front wrapper. Colors bright.
