Troy Female Seminary, later renamed The Emma Willard School and often called simply "Emma," was founded by Willard in 1821 in order to provide an opportunity for women to receive the same quality of higher education as their male peers. Emma Willard's lifetime of educational activism was built on the belief that gender equality cannot exist without high quality female education. Foxing to front and back wrapper.
