Lipsiae:: Libraria Arnoldiana, 1868., 1868. Series or Latin title: Clavis Novi Testamenti philologica . . . accommodate. Tall 8vo. XII, 467, [1] pp. Printed in double columns. Errata. Original quarter patterned gilt-stamped green calf, green marbled paper boards; edges worn. Complete. Very good. Scarce. Wilke was baptized and brought up as a Protestant, and after attending high school in Zeitz, he studied philosophy and theology in Leipzig. In 1814 he became a field chaplain in the Saxon Landwehr and later a pastor in Hermannsdorf in the Ore Mountains. In 1838 he settled in Dresden, where in the same year he published his work The Urevangelist, or the critical exegetical study of the relationships between the first three Gospels . In this work he claimed that the evangelist Mark was the "original evangelist" and served as the source for the Gospels of Matthew and Luke (Wilke hypothesis, Synoptic problem ). In the same period, the philosopher Christian Hermann Weisse , independent of Wilke, came to the same conclusion. From 1838 he worked in Dresden, among other things on his dictionary of the New Testament [this item]. / The dictionary was first released in 1858: Lexicon graeco-latinum in libros Novi Testamenti : usibus scholarum et iuvenum s. theologiae catholicae studiosorum accommodatum. Manz, Regensburg 1858.
