London: George Allen & Unwin Ltd, 1923. Hardcover. Near Fine. First edition in English. Translated by Lilian A. Clare. Octavo. 324pp. Blue cloth lettered in red. Slight rubbing on the boards, a nice, near fine example lacking the rare dust jacket. One of the most important film sources of the 20th Century, basis for Fritz Lang's 1922 silent masterpiece, *Dr. Mabuse the Gambler*, with Mabuse as a master criminal and manipulator using hypnoses and quasi-supernatural powers. Mabuse was one of the earliest examples of film noir characterization, and remained an obsession with Lang until the end of his film career. (Inventory #: 539649)
