Stockholm: Johan Imnelius, 1819. Paper wraps. 88pp., two leaves of lithographed music. First edition of a rare Swedish translation by Ulrik Emanuel Mannerhjerta of this classic musical biography. Griesinfer (1769-1845) was a diplomat who became Haydn's friend and confidante as a result of negotiations with the composer on behalf of the music publishers, Breitkof and Haertel. First published in book form in 1810 (serially in1809, the year of Haydn's death), the biography is based largely in conversations with the composer. Very scarce. Not in OCLC.
