- Janesville, WI: Baker, Bennett & Hall, 1855
Janesville, WI: Baker, Bennett & Hall, 1855. 48 pp. Lacking the printed paper cover. Small ink stain affecting some text. Mayberry was a Mormon who was at Nauvoo when Smith was assassinated. Mayberry's family and wife went on to Salt Lake City, but he stayed behind, leading a life of crime, which ended in the murder of Alger. Although Wisconsin had eliminated the death penalty, a mob hung him. While in jail, he told a relative about several murders he committed over the years. If these cases are true, he would replace Holmes, becoming the U.S.'s first serial killer. See McDade 674.
