Wagner rowed out to Smuttynose which is part of the Isles of Shoals off Portsmouth N.H. and killed two women with an axe thinking there was $600 hidden on the island. A third woman survived. He was convicted and executed, and this is a transcript of the trial. This is an infamous Maine murder that still is recounted in articles, books and through other media.
