Tokyo: Okura Magobei, 1884. First edition. Wraps. Very good. Three volumes. Printed paper covers bound in the Japanese style with folded leaves. Japanese text followed by exquisite depictions of a variety of birds in their natural environment, not only those native to Japan, but also exotic birds. The illustrations are subtle colored woodblocks, esteemed for their beauty and realism.
A very good set with only light soil and wear to the covers. Volume I, "Ten" (Sky) lacks one double page corner affecting the frame and the tip of the first character, else this is a very good set.
