First printing of this beautiful volume on the Pre-Raphaelite architect and trailblazer of the Arts and Crafts movement, a business partner of William Morris and the designer of Morris's Red House. Historians identify the Red House as "the first Arts and Crafts building" (introduction) – this bombshell design was actually Webb's first commission. Like his contemporaries and colleagues William Morris, Edward Burne-Jones, and Dante Gabriel Rossetti, Webb's artistic concerns were in beauty through practicality, and the sympathetic preservation of old materials and techniques.
