Seymour Eaton (1859-1916) was the author of The Roosevelt Bears: Their Travels and Adventures, so named in honor of President Theodore Roosevelt who refused to kill a bear on a hunting trip in Mississippi. A sort of cultural bear mania ensued with stuffed animals and books calling bears "Roosevelt Bears" or "Teddy Bears.".
