First edition; 9 x 6; pp. [1], 4-37, [1]; beige wraps, printed and ruled in black; a few chips with small loss of paper to spine; period signature of previous owner to upper margin of front wrap; scattered spotting, mostly to endpapers and margins; in about very good condition. Gardiner Spring (1785 - 1873) was an author, minister, and educator. He would be the propounder of the Gardener Spring Resolutions, adopted by the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of the United States, which would precipitate the creation of the Presbyterian Church of the Confederate States. His current speech was delivered on the occasion of the ordination of poet and minister Carlos Wilcox (1794 - 1827) at the North Congregational Church in Hartford.
