In the Middle Ages, Jews were often compelled by the Church to engage in religious disputes. In 1263 Moses ben Nachman, the leading Rabbi of his time, was summoned for this purpose before Jayme I of Aragon. He defended himself so well that the king dismissed him with a gift of 300 maravedis. In this work, the author assumes his mantle and the counter attack is projected into the present.
