KIDDIE-KAR BOOK
- Philadelphia & London: J. B. Lippincott Company, 1920
Philadelphia & London: J. B. Lippincott Company, 1920. Near fine in very good plus dust jacket.. First edition of this charming Art Nouveau-tinged collection of rhymes and illustrations about the delights of riding a tricycle, an unusual Sarah S. Sitwell Weber title. Sarah S. Stilwell Weber studied under Howard Pyle at the Drexel Institute, and was one of the core members of the Brandywine School and the Plastic Club. Her vibrant figures and Art Nouveau-inspired compositions made her a popular periodical illustrator, and she created covers for THE SATURDAY EVENING POST, HARPER'S BAZAAR, COLLIER'S, and others; the work made her one of the highest-paid woman artists of her day. This beautiful book of children adventuring on their Kiddie-Kar tricycles is an example of her artistic skill, and is rare on the market, particularly in its original dust jacket. 9.25'' x 11.25''. Original cloth-backed boards with color pictorial paste-on. Original unclipped ($1.50) color pictorial dust jacket. Pictorial endleaves of three children playing with a tricycle. Nine color illustrations with black-and-white line illustrations and borders. [50] pages. Ink gift inscription dated "Xmas 1923" to verso of front flyleaf. Jacket with light edgewear, a few closed tears, two careful tape repairs to verso. Binding with a touch of edgewear. Tight.
