Peoria, IL: H.E. Hardin, 1878. Magazine. [4] pp. + 2 page supplement. 8.75 x 6.25 in. Old vertical fold. An amateur newspaper devoted to the “thrilling and startling themes of High School life” in late 1870s Peoria, Illinois. Stories cover the commencement at Peoria High School, the editor of the “rival” amateur paper, the Just for Fun, and news about a circus then visiting the town. Local papers such as these, published for fun rather than profit, were popular during the latter 19th century, especially the 1870s-90s, which the American Antiquarian Society refers to as the “golden age of amateurdom.”.
