Ferguson's The Renaissance in Historical Thought (1948). While most scholars in the past 50 years have either dismissed the Burkhardian concept of the Renaissance or dismissed it entirely in favor of the broad "Early Modern Europe" label, this work has nearly a dozen major scholars from Robert Black's "The State as a Work of Art" who like each of the scholars has used the theme Ad Fontes to go back to the sources and the early work of Burckhardt which should cause the (truncated) "Renaissance Deniers" to reconsider their earlier thinking.
