Lothrop Publishing Company, 1901. Hardcover. Near Fine. Yohn, F.C. Full red cloth binding with central oval paper onlay with gilt decorative frame, gilt lettering to front cover and spine, 7-3/4" x 5-1/4", 362 pp. Owner's inscription to front endpaper; tips lightly worn. Red silk cloth covers with gilt lettering and rose flower & stem frame around paper onlay by F.C. Yohn, who also did the plate illustrations within. Laid in is an original publisher's announcement for the book, which includes this statement: "In appearance this book will be BY FAR the MOST BEAUTIFUL in color and ornament that has been published in cloth binding, and it is sure to be one of the MOST EXQUISITE CHRISTMAS GIFTS OBTAINABLE THIS SEASON." There may be some hyperbole in that statement, but if the copyright page is without exaggeration (which may be doubtful), they had printed 150,000 copies by November 16th, 1901 (first printing was July 25th).
