London: Printed and Sold by Darton, Harvey, and Darton, 1810. Second Edition. Good. Second edition; 7 x 4; pp. [5], iv-x, [2], 2-420, [2]; polished roan, with gilt ruling to spine; boards detached, with no loss to boards; frontispiece folding map and publisher's advertisement also detached, but present; a bit of wear to leather; small previous owner's signature to back board verso; a solid, good candidate for rebounding. Priscilla Wakefield (1751 - 1832) was a British Quaker philanthropist and a prolific writer, best known for her feminist work "Reflection on the Present Condition of the Female Sex; with Suggestions for its Improvement." She also wrote numerous books on morals for children and works on botany. Her current publication described an imaginary trip around the United States, in letter form.
