A.B.C. BOOK OF ANIMALS AT PLAY

  • Cleveland and New York: The World Syndicate Publishing Co, 1929
Cleveland and New York: The World Syndicate Publishing Co, 1929. Very good.. First printing of this giant, colorful ABC and counting book, featuring a number of unexpected animals. B is for bear, M is for monkey, and X is, of course, for xeri. This oversized alphabet book with Harrison Cady-esque illustrations makes some fascinating choices when it comes to the animal models for each letter - O is for owl, sure, but Q is for... "queer ones" that "they can't capture to put in the zoo"? C should have been for camp. 14.5'' x 9.75''. Original stiff color pictorial wrapper. Illustrated in color. [16] pages. Wrapper with light edgewear, some wear and infills to spine; several repairs to lower edges. Leaves with tiny closed tears to lower edges, carefully repaired with tape or glue; each gutter reinforced with tape. Colors bright.
