By Karlgren, Berhard
Beijing: [publisher not identified], 1941. Large 8vo, pp. [4], 471, [1]; red paper wrappers; wrappers chipped and sunned, joints starting, upper pastedown separated but still bound in, text clean and sound, good. Reprinted from the Bulletin of the Museum of Far Eastern Antiquities, Stockholm, Number 12. Berhard Karlgren was a pioneer of early Chinese historical linguistics and was the first scholar to apply western methods of historical reconstruction to Middle and Old Chinese. His work has largely been superseded by later models. "Nevertheless, Karlgren's groundbreaking works laid the foundation of modern Chinese historical linguistics and many of his works are still used as works of reference" (Wikipedia).
