"The usual approach in Japanese photography had been to organize photographs on themes. These [new] photographers abandoned the approach, shifting from an objective to a more inner-directed mode of expression. In the course of that shift, Nakahara and Okada, the photographers who had made explicit their ideas in Provoke [magazine started in 1968], produced anti-photographic photographs – coarse, blurred, out of focus images." (Yokoe Fuminori).
Moriyama had joined the magazine for its second issue and it ceased publishing with its third issue in 1969. This catalog contains b/w photographs, some color, of the 1970s by Daido Moriyama, Issei Suda, Hiromi Tsuchida, Bishin Jumonji, Kazuo Kitai, Ryoji Akiyama, Hiroji Kubota, Hajime Sawatari, Taiji Arita, Gasho Yamamura, Jun Morinaga, Akihide Tamura, Hiroshi Yamazaki, Miyako Ishiuchi, and Hitoshi Tsukiji. Contain list of exhibited photographs and chronology at rear. Text in Japanese and English. Light wear along edges of wraps and light age-toning along edges of block, not affecting photographs.
