Marguerite De Angeli (1889-1987) was an American writer and illustrator who worked in the midst of raising five children and without a quiet studio. In this Christmas story, a family struggles financially with a child's illness, and providing for festivities during the holiday. The back flap author biography states that this was a personal story for De Angeli when she was 12 years old.
