New York: James G. Gregory, 540 Broadway, 1864. Cloth. Very good. [VICTORIANA]. C.A. Alvord, Stereotyped & Printer, New York.
12mo (7 1/8" x 5 ¼"); 95pp + [1] publisher's ads; green cloth over board, blind stamped borders and floral design, gilt-stamped title and vignette of a girl and dog on front; peach-colored glazed endpapers; color fp and pictorial half-title; 2 lithographed plates; wear to boards with loss at corners, some age-toning, finger marks, and some foxing; very good minus. An unusual and very Victorian-style story about a young girl named Edith, who was called Little Blue Hood for the hooded cap she wore. Edith is kidnapped by an old woman but reunited with her mother after the kidnapper's death. "Inquire among the aged and the helpless, the poor and the needy, where Sorrow has alighted, and Misfortune found a pitiful home, and there you will hear of a Ministering Angel, who is ever coming and going on errands of Charity, and Loving-kindness, and will be told that, in the days of her girlhood, she was known by the name of Little Blue Hood.".
