by A. L. Barbauld
Boston, MA: Timothy Swan, 1819. General wear. Inscribed. Wrappers appear to have been replaced at some point.. The peculiar design of this publication is, to impress devotional feelings as early as possible on the infant mind; fully convinced, as the author is, that they cannot be impressed too soon; and that a child, to fill the full force of the idea of God, ought to never remember the time when he had no such idea..." To facilitate this goal, the booklet has twelve (12) hymns meant for children, mostly praising God in general, though often reflecting on specific parts of nature or people (like one's parents) that children should be thankful for. The author of the book, A. L. Barbauld, was a woman, who is sometimes referred to as Mrs. Barbauld, with her full name being Anna Letitia Barbauld. Inscribed: "The Property of Miss Sophia Green, Philadelphia, PA." 32 pgs. Plain blue wrappers. Thread binding. OCLC 130 (March 2021). Printer: Parmenter and Balch. Measures 5 3/4" x 3 1/2
