Pearl Buck (1892-1973) was an American writer and novelist. As the daughter of missionaries, she spent much of her life before 1934 in China with her parents and then her first husband. This is a story of some of her girlhood playmates in China. In later life, she became a strong proponent of women's rights and racial equality.
