Provenance: with the leather bookplate of Charles Kalbfleisch, whos collection of press books and fine printing was sold at auction in 1944 by Parke-Bernet after his death. Also, a second 19th century bookplate of Joseph Granville Stuart Goff.
Printed in red and black throughout in two columns. Music notations in black on red four-line staves. Floriated woodcut initials throughout. The Roman Pontifical contains the rites of Bishops and is a Catholic liturgical book. Under Clement VIII (1536-1605) a standard version of this work was issued for the use of the entire Roman Rite, for the first time.
