[Commemorative Theatrical Tchotchke] Oval Print of the Blue Boy Painted by Gainsborough. Issued to mark 100th Time, Little Boy Blue, Lyric Theatre, New York, February 12, 1912
- 1912
1912. Little Boy Blue" was an American adaptation of a xxxx operetta. The show was produced by Henry Wilson Savage, who also mounted the first American production of "The Merry Widow" and surprisingly, "Madama Butterfly". Such a tchotchke as this was probably offered free to members of the audience on the day of the performance. The oval print, with frame, is about 15 by 8 cm, at its tallest and widest, with a decorative ring with which to hang it adding almost 3 cm to the top. The frame is of a cold metal, colored brown, with floral relief and swirly line relief decoration. With a printed label on the back. This label is heavily stained and has substantial losses both top and bottom, but enough of the print survives to convey to us the gist of the content.
