John Weston Brooke, who was killed by Lolo robbers on December 24, 1908; Brooke started in Shanghai in August, 1906, and travelled through Western Szechuan and Eastern Tibet. The work is based on Brooke's diary, with other observations and photographs by W.N. Fergusson and C.H. Meares. Tall octavo: xvi, 343 p. with a frontispiece portrait, numerous textual photographs, and 2 folding maps. Original green cloth binding, with pictorial stamping and gilt titles.
